A Better Platform for Data-Driven Investigations

Each step in an investigation depends on accuracy, timeliness, and coordination. With the 6.1 product release, Kaseware introduces several new capabilities designed to improve those functions, not by overhauling core functionality but by refining it, making it faster to search, easier to communicate, and more structured to report.

The updates introduced in this release reflect critical needs shared by investigative, security, and public safety professionals: faster workflows, cleaner data, and more transparency. These enhancements offer not only feature improvements, but operational clarity for teams handling growing complexity in intelligence, threat response, and compliance.

Key Enhancements in Kaseware 6.1

1. Workflow-Triggered Notifications via Business Process Rules

Your team shouldn’t have to guess what happens next in a workflow. Previously, Kaseware’s Business Rules functioned only when items updated or discrete events occurred. With the 6.1 release, these rules can now be triggered by workflow transitions—approvals, reassignments, or rejections.

This creates a reliable automation framework:

  • Notifications can be dispatched in real-time when investigative records advance or change status
  • Manual follow-ups are reduced, and the risk of missed updates diminishes
  • Compliance requirements, especially those around communication or auditability, are easier to meet

Available to Connections-tier clients or higher.

2. Access the Entity Quick Search From the Entity Search Dialog

Searching for entities during casework often pulls you out of context. A new shortcut now allows you to launch the Entity Quick Search directly from the “Search for Entities” pop-up via a bullseye icon, no need to return to the toolbar.

By limiting search fields to only those relevant to your organization, and enabling access from within the search modal itself, your teams can:

  • Reduce time spent toggling between modules
  • Find critical links faster
  • Maintain their place in a case workflow without interruption

3. Track Document Workflow Status at a Glance

Documents often move between multiple hands. A new Document Workflow Status column now shows the current stage of a document within the search view and document list.

This addition allows investigative teams to:

  • Track outstanding approvals or assignments
  • Search and filter documents based on workflow stage
  • Report on document lifecycle without exporting data

With this enhancement, teams gain transparency without requiring additional follow-up or manual status checks.

4.Drag-and-Drop Access to Frequently Used Entities

The new Entity Shortcut Drawer improves the efficiency of multi-entity investigations. Investigators can now access recently viewed or favorited entities from anywhere in the system. This feature is particularly valuable for users managing high volumes of linked individuals, organizations, or locations across complex cases.

This drawer lets users:

  • Drag and drop entities into records or documents
  • Navigate without losing their place in a workflow
  • Reduce time spent re-searching for commonly used entities

Available to Connections-tier clients or higher.

5. Expanded Fields for Cyber and Financial Entities

The scope of data collected during investigations is growing, particularly in cybercrime and financial fraud. Kaseware 6.1 introduces expanded fields for:

  • Financial Entities: Capture transaction IDs, bank names, and wallet IDs
  • IP Address Entities: Include port numbers and service details
  • Event Entities: Log more granular event data

These changes are designed to help you:

  • Create stronger linkages across records
  • Trace financial and cyber behaviors with greater specificity
  • Maintain alignment with investigative standards for digital evidence

6. One-Click Exports With Related Documents and Tasks

The ability to export related content with a form, whether its documents, tasks, or entities, has been introduced to improve how investigative packages are assembled.

When printing or emailing a form:

  • You can include all related documents and PDFs in one consolidated file
  • Recipients gain full context in a single transmission
  • This is especially useful for formal briefings, discovery preparation, or internal review

7. Enhanced Public Submission Forms

Public-facing forms often suffer from incomplete or inconsistent data entry. With improvements to Public Submissions, this update enhances both the user experience for external submitters and the review process for investigators.

The new structure:

  • Guides external users to enter more complete and accurate data
  • Enables easier mapping of submissions to cases
  • Reduces manual cleanup and review time

This upgrade will be particularly useful for agencies collecting tips, complaints, or threat reports from the public.
