National Slavery and Human Trafficking Month
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. While most people have heard of the issue, the statistics on the magnitude of it are staggering. For example, the following is just in the United States (US) alone:
About 50,000 people are trafficked into the US each year, most often from Mexico and the Philippines.
Approximately 100,000-150,000 victims are held as commercial sex slaves in the US.
Every 2.5 hours, a child is taken by human traffickers.
In 2018, over half (51.6%) of the criminal human trafficking cases active in the US were sex trafficking cases involving only children.
Every trafficked child is purchased for sex 5.4 times a day.
The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the US is 12 to 14 years old.
Most notably, human trafficking earns profits of roughly $1 billion a year for traffickers in the US. Read more on the crisis here.
Kaseware Client Spotlight
We at Kaseware feel honored to help serve so many incredible clients combating challenges like these.
DeliverFund is one of these incredible clients. Everyday they take on the challenge to fight human trafficking using the power of combined resources and data. In fact, DeliverFund was our first ever client and we proudly showcase our “first dollar” from them in a case in our home office (see photo).
About DeliverFund
DeliverFund is a non-profit that equips, trains and advises law enforcement on tools and strategies to combat human trafficking. The goal is to ensure that law enforcement has the best technologies and intelligence to solve human trafficking cases as quickly and efficiently as possible.
DeliverFund Data Visualization
DeliverFund accomplishes its goal through providing a Counter Human Trafficking Intelligence Operators Course for detectives who investigate human trafficking. The course equips law enforcement with link analysis, data visualization and information sharing through the Kaseware system. This allows investigators to connect cases across jurisdictions and provides more evidence for prosecution.
Central Kaseware Database
Detectives all over the country provide information into a central Kaseware system, which is aptly named the Platform for the Analysis and Targeting of Human Traffickers. This creates a huge database of information on suspects, victims, trafficking locations and events. Using the Kaseware data visualization capabilities, they create complex graphs to help identify relationship connections. They then provide this information to those assisting with prosecuting these perpetrators.
Link Analysis Graphical Representation
With just a single point of information — a name, for example — DeliverFund users can build a visual representation of relationships between data. The system does the hard work of pulling together all the relationships that exist and then presents that information in an easy-to-understand manner. For example, the preceding graph is a visualization built by data pulled from Kaseware (see photo).
Kaseware and DeliverFund Partnership
In the fight against Human Trafficking, DeliverFund and Kaseware are partners, working together to combat this huge local, national and global issue. We are truly proud to support DeliverFund’s important work. And that’s why we are so grateful for the reviews we receive from their team, like the following one from DeliverFund’s CEO.
“Kaseware has been an incredible partner, and with their help we have had some historic moments in the fight against human trafficking that would not have otherwise been possible. If you need relevant intelligence analysis tools built by incredible people, this your solution.”
